Pourquoi ce drama ?

Très simplement, pour Li Xian, parce que je l’avais adoré dans Go Go Squid et que j’avais envie de le voir dans un nouveau drama. Et aussi parce que j’ai lu de très bonnes critiques au sujet de ce drama.

Very simply, for Li Xian, because I’d loved him in Go Go Squid and wanted to see him in a new drama. And also because I read some very good reviews about this drama.

Episode 1

Chen Maidong est croquemort, très froid et réservé et Zhuang Jie est vendeuse de machines médicales, très extravertie et pleine d’énergie. Ils se retrouvent par hasard des années après s’être rencontrés sur les bancs de l’école et Maidong ignore Jie. De retour dans leur ville natale, Jie aide une grand mère à trouver une épouse à son petit fils et découvre que ce petit fils n’est autre que Maidong (et, spoiler alert, on dirait bien qu’elle est folle de lui).

Episode 1

Chen Maidong is an undertaker, very cold and reserved, and Zhuang Jie is a medical machinery saleswoman, very outgoing and full of energy. They meet again by chance, years after they first met at school, and Maidong ignores Jie. Back in their hometown, Jie helps a grandmother find a wife for her grandson and discovers that the grandson is none other than Maidong (and, spoiler alert, it looks like she’s crazy about him).

Episode 2

On apprend que Chen Maidong était un jeune étudiant qui aimait se battre et qu’il aurait été impliqué dans un décès. On apprend aussi que Jie a une prothèse de jambe et qu’elle a été amputée suite à un accident ou son père est décédé. On découvre la famille de Jie, son petit frère qui rêve de devenir peintre, sa petite soeur qui a du mal à étudier et sa mère qui les chahute sans arrêt. Maidong quant à lui est passionné par son travail et passe beaucoup de temps avec sa grand mère (qui est franchement très drôle).

Episode 2

We learn that Chen Maidong was a student who liked to fight and that he may have been involved in a death. We also learn that Jie has a prosthetic leg and was amputated following an accident in which her father died. We discover Jie’s family, her little brother who dreams of becoming a painter, her little sister who has trouble studying and her mother who heckles them constantly. As for Maidong, he’s passionate about his work and spends a lot of time with his grandmother (who, frankly, is very funny).

Episode 3

Le frère de Jie découvre un corps et Maidong le réconforte à sa façon (c’est a dire qu’il ne le réconforte pas du tout haha). Quand Jie vient le chercher, elle le réconforte (pour de vrai pour le coup) et on comprend que quand elle a perdu sa jambe, elle a trouvé la force se continuer à vivre grâce à Maidong. Les deux continuent de tomber l’un sur l’autre plus ou moins par hasard (la grand mère provoque pas mal de rencontres) et on en apprend un peu plus sur leur relation pendant leurs études (rien de fou mais visiblement il l’aimait bien aussi).

Episode 3

Jie’s brother discovers a body and Maidong comforts him in his own way (that is, he doesn’t comfort him at all haha). When Jie comes looking for him, she comforts him (for real) and we understand that when she lost her leg, she found the strength to go on living thanks to Maidong. The two continue to bump into each other more or less by chance (the grandmother provokes quite a few encounters) and we learn a little more about their relationship during their studies (nothing crazy, but he obviously liked her too).

Episode 4

Chen Maidong et Jie continuent de se croiser et de se chercher (enfin, surtout Jie). Il regrette qu’elle soit différente de quand ils étaient jeunes et elle considère qu’elle est différente grâce à lui. La grand mère de Chen Maidong continue de se mêler de leur relation et invite Chen Maidong à draguer Jie avec insistance.

Episode 4

Chen Maidong and Jie continue to cross paths and search for each other (well, especially Jie). He regrets that she is different from when they were young, and she considers that she is different thanks to him. Chen Maidong’s grandmother continues to meddle in their relationship and urges Chen Maidong to flirt with Jie.

Episode 5

En aidant son beau père à emballer des legumes, Jie entend une radio vanter les mérites de Chen Maidong et veut elle aussi que Chen Maidong entende des exploits sur elle à la radio. Elle décide donc de négocier les contrats des légumes pour augmenter le chiffre de la ville, réussit et a son heure de gloire à la radio. Elle passe ensuite un peu de temps avec la grand mère de Chen Maidong et se fait traiter de femme frivole par Chen Maidong lui même qui l’invite à manger pour s’excuser (inutile de vous dire qu’elle saute sur l’occasion). La soirée se passe très bien et Jie lui apprend qu’elle rentre à Shanghai le le demain, et la on comprend tout : il a très peur de l’abandon à cause du divorce de ses parents et le 1er départ de Jie l’avait bouleversé (quand ils étaient ados). Du coup, son nouveau départ le perturbe pas mal et il finit par aller la surprendre sur le quai de la gare (et il est métamorphosé, agréable, doux, presque romantique !) et là, elle l’embrasse et il l’embrasse en retour (c’est pour me tuer ! Tellement inattendu !).

Episode 5

While helping her father-in-law pack vegetables, Jie hears Chen Maidong being praised on the radio and wants Chen Maidong to hear about her on the radio as well. So she decides to negotiate vegetable contracts to boost the city’s sales, succeeds and has her moment on the radio. She then spends some time with Chen Maidong’s grandmother and is called a frivolous woman by Chen Maidong himself, who invites her to dinner to apologize (needless to say, she jumps at the chance). The evening goes very well and Jie tells him that she’s going back to Shanghai the day after, and we understand everything: he’s very afraid of abandonment because of his parents’ divorce and Jie’s 1st departure had upset him (when they were teenagers). As a result, her new departure upsets him quite a bit and he ends up surprising her on the station platform (and he’s transformed, pleasant, gentle, almost romantic!) and then she kisses him and he kisses her back (it’s killing me! So unexpected!).

Episode 6

Nos 2 compères ont du mal à se remettre de ce 1er baiser (et honnêtement moi non plus !!), toute la ville apprends la nouvelle et Chen Maidong bloque Jie (et elle le découvre). Il décide d’accepter les mariages arrangés de sa grand mère, persuadé que Jie ne reviendra jamais dans leur ville pour lui. 3 mois plus tard, Jie revient suite au décès de son beau père et Chen Maidong est en charge du corps.

Episode 6

Our 2 companions have a hard time getting over that 1st kiss (and honestly, neither can I!!), the whole town hears the news and Chen Maidong blocks Jie (and she finds out). He decides to accept his grandmother’s arranged marriages, convinced that Jie will never return to their town for him. 3 months later, Jie returns following the death of her father-in-law and Chen Maidong is in charge of the body.

Chen Maidong aide Jie à accepter la mort de son beau père et lui apprend comment il est devenu croque mort et comment ça l’a sauvé de la délinquance.

Chen Maidong helps Jie come to terms with his stepfather’s death and explains her how he became an undertaker and how it saved him from delinquency.

Jie rentre à Shanghai et pose un congés sans solde pour rentrer aider sa mère. Sa petite soeur s’enfuit et Chen Maidong la trouve dans le train pour Shanghai et la ramène à Jie. Les deux se rapprochent à nouveau (sans aller plus loin).

Episode 8

Jie returns to Shanghai and takes unpaid leave to help her mother. Her little sister runs away and Chen Maidong finds her on the train to Shanghai and brings her back to Jie. The two become close again (without going any further).

Episode 9

Jie est de retour dans sa ville natale et aide sa mère avec son restaurant de poulets, elle s’investit tellement que les ventes explosent. Chen Maidong apprend qu’elle est de retour et se rapproche à nouveau d’elle mais Jie pense qu’il ne la voit que comme une amie.

Jie is back in her hometown, helping her mother with her chicken restaurant. She’s so committed that sales explode. Chen Maidong learns she’s back and gets close to her again, but Jie thinks he only sees her as a friend.

Episode 10

L’ex de Jie, Ji Tong (un sombre con) fait réapparition dans sa vie en débarquant dans sa ville. Son objectif est de la reconquérir (après l’avoir plus ou moins jetée) parce qu’il a entendu parler de Chen Maidong et est jaloux. Chen Maidong les croise et a clairement les boules. Un ennemi à lui fait aussi sa réapparition et le provoque.

Episode 10

Jie’s ex-boyfriend Ji Tong (a prick) reappears in her life when he shows up in her town. His goal is to win her back (after more or less dumping her) because he’s heard about Chen Maidong and is jealous. Chen Maidong crosses paths with them and is clearly pissed off. An enemy of his also reappears and provokes him.

En entendant que Chen Maidong s’est battu, Jie se précipite chez lui et le retrouve enfermé dans sa chambre et très énervé après elle (à cause de Ji Tong). Il lui demande ce qu’elle a prévu de faire vis à vis de lui, l’embrasse de force et elle le mord et s’enfuie. Il la revoit ensuite à la gare ou elle raccompagne Ji Tong et est à nouveau jaloux. Il l’arrache aux mains de Ji Tong et l’embrasse, et elle se laisse faire (yes!). Elle lui avoue ensuite ses sentiments mais précise qu’elle aime encore plus Shanghai et qu’elle repartira.

Episode 11

Hearing that Chen Maidong has been in a fight, Jie rushes home to find him locked in his room and very angry with her (because of Ji Tong). He asks her what she plans to do about him, forcefully kisses her, and she bites him and runs off. He then sees her again at the station, where she’s giving Ji Tong a lift, and is once again jealous. He pulls her away from Ji Tong and kisses her, and she gives in (yes!). She then confesses her feelings, but says she loves Shanghai even more and will go back.

Episode 12

Jie demande à Chen Maidong d’arrêter de jouer et d’aimer en retour plutôt que de se laisser aimer. Il décide donc de la surprendre en demandant à la marieuse de la ville de planifier un rendez-vous à l’aveugle avec Jie sans lui préciser qu’il sera son date. Évidemment, Jie refuse, Chen Maidong boude, la rejette et finit par la récupérer en s’excusant. Ils s’embrassent ensuite sous le regarde choqué de la mère de Jie.

Episode 12

Jie asks Chen Maidong to stop playing games and love back rather than let himself be loved. So he decides to surprise her by asking the town matchmaker to plan a blind date with Jie without specifying that he will be her date. Of course, Jie refuses, Chen Maidong sulks, rejects her and eventually wins her back with an apology. They then kiss as Jie’s mother looks on in shock.

Episode 13

La mère de Jie vrille complètement et s’énerve après Jie qu’elle trouve frivole. L’ex de Chen Maidong débarque en ville et la mère de Jie enfonce le clou en l’apprenant à Jie. Jie prend peur et panique, persuadée que Chen Maidong a encore des sentiments pour elle (elle a de sérieux problèmes de confiance en elle). Elle poursuit l’ex de Chen Maidong et découvre qu’elle est remariée, enceinte et qu’elle est en fait la soeur du meilleur ami de Chen Maidong qui est décédé.

Episode 13

Jie’s mother completely spins out and gets angry at Jie, whom she finds frivolous. Chen Maidong’s ex-girlfriend comes to town, and Jie’s mother adds insult to injury by telling Jie. Jie panics, convinced that Chen Maidong still has feelings for her (she has serious self-confidence problems). She pursues Chen Maidong’s ex and discovers that she is remarried, pregnant and is in fact the sister of Chen Maidong’s deceased best friend.

Episode 14

On apprend que Chen Maidong est sorti avec la soeur de son meilleur ami pour la consoler mais qu’il ne l’a jamais vraiment aimée (évidemment, il a toujours été amoureux de Jie). Jie et lui se rapprochent encore et Jie lui explique bien qu’elle rentrera à Shanghai et qu’elle ne veut pas changer ses plans pour lui (ce qu’il comprend). La meilleure amie de la grand mère de Chen Maidong tombe gravement malade, lui brisant le coeur, et elle demande à Maidong de penser à lui et de vivre sa vie (en allant à Shanghai avec Jie par exemple) pour ne mas avoir de regrets. La mère de Jie lui demande de quitter Maidong pour avoir une vie meilleure (sa jambe + le passé de Maidong = malheur assuré selon elle).

Episode 14

We learn that Chen Maidong dated his best friend’s sister to console her, but that he never really loved her (of course, he’s always been in love with Jie). He and Jie get closer again, and Jie makes it clear that she’s going back to Shanghai and doesn’t want to change her plans for him (which he understands). Chen Maidong’s grandmother’s best friend gets severely ill, breaking her heart, and she asks Maidong to think of him and live his life (by going to Shanghai with Jie, for example) so as not to have any regrets. Jie’s mother asks her to leave Maidong for a better life (her leg + Maidong’s past = misfortune, in her opinion).

Episode 15

Le soir du nouvel an, Jie et sa mère se disputent et sa mère lui dit que son handicap est un fardeau (entre autres choses sympathiques). Jie s’enfuit pour retrouver Chen Maidong et se jette littéralement sur lui pour consommer leur relation (alchimie +++). Quand il essaie de lui enlever sa prothèse, elle prend peur, lui dit qu’il l’a forcée et qu’elle regrette (ce qu’il n’apprécie vraiment pas du tout) et s’enfuit. Chen Maidong la raccompagne et romp avec elle. Jie file à Shanghai pour se changer les idées et se fait réprimander par sa meilleure amie qui lui demande de s’excuse auprès de Chen Maidong.

Episode 15

On New Year’s Eve, Jie and her mother have a fight and her mother tells her that her disability is a burden (among other nice things). Jie runs off to find Chen Maidong and literally throws herself at him to consummate their relationship (chemistry +++). When he tries to remove her prosthesis, she gets scared, tells him he forced her and that she regrets it (which he really doesn’t like at all) and runs off. Chen Maidong takes her home and breaks up with her. Jie heads off to Shanghai to clear her head and is reprimanded by her best friend, who asks her to apologize to Chen Maidong.

Episode 16

Chen Maidong est dans le mal après leur rupture et Jie, honteuse comme jamais tente de s’excuser mais ne sait pas comment s’y prendre. Jie et Maidong finissent par se retrouver lors d’une réunion d’anciens élèves mais Maidong refuse de lui pardonner et comme par hasard elle s’évanouit et il est complètement retourné. Sa maladie (un petit rhume) permet à Jie de se réconcilier avec sa mère (qui accepte Chen Maidong) et Chen Maidong à qui elle explique qu’elle a eu peur car elle n’a jamais retiré sa prothèse devant aucun homme. Ils finissent par repartir en rendez-vous et s’avouer leurs sentiments, Jie lui avoue aussi qu’elle n’a jamais eu de relations et qu’elle faisait semblant de jouer les femmes frivoles et fortes.

Episode 16

Chen Maidong is down bad after their break-up and Jie, ashamed as ever, tries to apologize but doesn’t know how. Jie and Maidong eventually meet up again at a school reunion, but Maidong refuses to forgive her and, as luck would have it, she faints and he’s completely turned around. Her illness (a slight cold) allows Jie to reconcile with her mother (who accepts Chen Maidong) and Chen Maidong, to whom she explains that she was afraid because she never removed her prosthesis in front of any man. Eventually they go on another date and confess their feelings to each other, Jie also confess to him that she’s never had a relationship and was pretending to be a strong, frivolous woman.

Episode 17

Après cet aveu, Chen Maidong rejoint Jie et passe la nuit avec elle (en tout bien tout honneur). Au matin, avant de la raccompagner, il insiste pour voir sa jambe et lui met sa prothèse (preuve d’amour ultime, on adore). Jie planifie son avenir, à Nanping, auprès de Chen Maidong et le présente à sa mère. Maidong aime de plus en plus Jie et son travail commence à lui faire peur de mourir. Jie le console et ils passent la nuit ensemble (pas en tout bien tout honneur cette fois).

Episode 17

After this confession, Chen Maidong joins Jie and spends the night with her (respectfully). In the morning, before taking her home, he insists on seeing her leg and fitting it with his prosthesis (the ultimate show of love, we love it). Jie plans her future in Nanping with Chen Maidong and introduces him to her mother. Maidong loves Jie more and more, and his work is beginning to make him scarred of dying. Jie comforts him and they spend the night together (this time, not so chastely).

Episode 18

L’épisode tourne principalement autour de la vie, la mort, pas vraiment autour de notre couple. L’amie de la grand mère décède et tout est bouleversé.

Episode 19

Jie commence à planifier son retour et ne sait pas comment l’annoncer à Chen Maidong. De son côté, Chen Maidong rentre à Nanping après avoir réalisé qu’il aime Jie et qu’il ne peut pas vivre sans elle. Ils s’avouent leurs sentiments et passent à nouveau la nuit ensemble (sans que Jie ne lui annonce ses plans). Au petit matin, la grand mère de Chen Maidong s’introduit dans son appartement et comprend ce qu’il s’est passé (relations hors mariage tout ça tout ça).

Episode 19

Jie starts planning her return and doesn’t know how to tell Chen Maidong. For his part, Chen Maidong returns to Nanping after realizing that he loves Jie and can’t live without her. They confess their feelings and spend the night together again (without Jie telling him her plans). In the early hours of the morning, Chen Maidong’s grandmother breaks into his apartment and realizes what has happened (relationships outside marriage, blah, blah, blah).

Mon avis

En un mot : superbe.

Tout est juste dans ce drama.

Les personnages sont super bien interprétés, on les voit évoluer et se transformer au fil du temps tout en restant qui ils sont au fond d’eux.

Évidemment, Li Xian joue toujours aussi bien, il est plein de green flags et son alchimie avec Zhou Yutong est juste incroyable.

Zhou Yutong joue également très bien, son personnage est à la fois très fort et plein de failles, elle n’en fait jamais trop et nous fait passer par toutes les émotions. Que ce soit avec Li Xian, avec sa famille, sa tante, la grand mère de Chen Maidong, elle tisse des liens forts avec tous les personnages du drama et c’est que du love.

Petit bémol pour la romance secondaire, très bâclée, mais comme on la voit peu ça n’est pas vraiment gênant.

Les paysages sont totalement en adéquation avec l’histoire de ce drama et retransmettent bien l’ambiance des épisodes, tant dans les lieux et les saisons que dans les couleurs et les moments de la journée.

La longueur du drama est parfaitement adaptée, ni trop long ni trop court, les intrigues ne patinent pas, il n’y a pas de malentendus énervant, on valide totalement.

My opinion

In a word: superb.

Everything is just right in this drama.

The characters are superbly played, and we see them evolve and change over time, while remaining who they are at heart.

Of course, Li Xian is as good as ever, full of green flags and his chemistry with Zhou Yutong is just incredible.

Zhou Yutong’s performance is equally fine, her character is both strong and full of flaws, never overdoing it and taking us through every emotion. Whether it’s with Li Xian, her family, her aunt, Chen Maidong’s grandmother, she weaves strong bonds with all the characters in the drama, and it’s all love.

The secondary romance is a little sloppy, but as we don’t see much of it, that’s not really a problem.

The scenery is totally in keeping with the drama’s story, and conveys the mood of the episodes well, both in terms of locations and seasons, as well as colors and times of day.

The length of the drama is perfectly adapted, neither too long nor too short, the plots don’t drag, there are no irritating misunderstandings, we totally approve.

Recommande ou recommande pas

Évidemment, je recommande. Beaucoup d’alchimie, une histoire bien construite et un très bon jeu d’acteurs. Ce drama réunit tout ce qu’on attend d’une romance.

Obviously, I recommend it. Lots of chemistry, a well-constructed story and very good acting. This drama has everything you could want from a romance.
